Farm animals educational rock set using stencils

Ever wanted to craft a handmade farm animal game set for your kids? We propose you take the pressure of drawing from yourself by using our farm animal stencils.

The good thing about using the stencils is you don’t need to be the best at drawing, or you can even invite the kids to join and make the farm animals themselves!

This educational set was made by Stacey Montford

What you’ll need

We’ll show you the process for a few different animals, and you can go on and make as many as you want. You have the entire sheet to choose from!

How to make a farm pig rock painting

Step 1: Fill in the fence stencil with your white paint pen to make the pig pen (you could also use a light brown).

Step 2: Use a dark brown from the Classics or the Earth Colours to colour in the soil

Step 3: Grab the pink paint pen from your Classic box to colour in the pig stencil silhouette

Step 4: Line the fence and the pig using your 1mm Life of Colour black paint pen

Step 5: Add details to your piggy using your 1mm paint pen and a light pink

How to make a cow in the pastures rock painting

You can take the direct approach and paint the entire background first and then choose where to place your cow, or reserve the space (leave it blank) for the cow first.

Step 1: Paint the sky using your favourite nature blue from the Earth Colours, you can make a nice gradient and even add clouds

Step 2: Use a nice grass green to colour in the pastures, use a lighter green to make subtle shrubs and yellow to make tiny flowers

Step 3: Fill in the cow in white or if you reserved the space before painting the landscape, touch up any borders with white

Step 4: Line the details of the cow using your 1mm Life of Colour black paint pen, for example the legs and head

Step 5: Use your medium black paint pen to make the cow spots

How to make chickens in the hen house rock painting

Step 1: Grab your red and make the doors of the barn, place them on the top half of the rock.

Step 2: Use your black paint pen to fill in the space between the open hen house doors, and make a few details to the doors while you’re at it

Step 3: Fill in the floor with different yellows, making a hay texture for your chickens to stand on

Step 4: Use the hen stencil silhouette looking to the right, then flip the stencil sheet and fill the rooster shape, this time looking to the left. By using the two differently sized silhouettes and placing one hen closer to the doors, and another one lower down we’ll achieve a sense of perspective! Add a few white spots next to one of them to make a few baby chicks.

Step 5: Line the details of your hens using your 1mm Life of Colour black paint pen

Step 6: Use red to make the comb and yellow to paint your little chicks

How to make a baby goat rock painting

You can take the direct approach and paint the entire background first and then choose where to place your goat, or reserve the space (leave it blank) for the goatfirst.

Step 1: Paint the grass around your goat using your dark green from the Earth Colours, if you have the metallics you can even add a bit of sheen to it! Add delicate flowers using red and yellow, a bit bigger closer to the front of the rock and decreasing size while they surround the stump

Step 2: Use different browns to make a tree stump for the goat to stand on

Step 3: Fill in the goat in white or if you reserved the space before painting the landscape, touch up any borders with white

Step 4: Line the details of the goat using your 1mm Life of Colour black paint pen

Step 5: Use brown to make the texture of the goat fur, go in straight with the paint pen in the areas around the face, and smudge it softly on the body of the goat.
